While Project xCloud officially released and dropping the ‘Project’ codename, the service continued to open its availability in due time. First arriving over on Android, xCloud just over a month ago shipped for PC alongside the long-requested iOS as well. However, plans for the service is far from complete. In that, Microsoft plans to further support xCloud with more avenues for entry alongside supported titles and features for avid users.

Already, the firm shipped updated support for xCloud to be on the same server blades as Xbox Series X|S. In that, players can now expect less latency as respected titles perform at 60 or even 120 frames per second as it also aims for higher resolution as well. Additionally, Microsoft went on to pledge to support the Xbox App with dedicated xCloud plug-in sometime later this year.

In a new announcement on Monday, xCloud has opened the floodgates – at least to Xbox Insiders for now. Now, the Xbox App offers support in its closed beta with plans to open to the public sometime later in 2021 as browser is currently available for the masses.

Xbox Cloud Gaming with the Xbox App provides the same great Xbox experience you’re used to: Play over 100 high-quality Xbox console games with your friends; pick up from a saved game you started on your Xbox; or try out a whole new game from the Xbox Game Pass library to decide if you want to download it to your console.

With Xbox Cloud Gaming, you can turn all types of PCs into a gaming device, from brand-new budget computers to older machines with low specs. All you need to do is connect a compatible controller via Bluetooth or USB, launch the Xbox app, click the “cloud games” button, select your game and start playing.

The Xbox Wire blog post also adds, “We’ve also added some new features to help you get started, including easy-to-access information on controller and network status, social features to stay connected with friends, and the ability to invite people – even those also playing on cloud without the game installed – to join you in a game.”

Previously, Microsoft confirmed when speaking to Polygon that it will be launching a new initiative to deliver unique games for xCloud. The confirmation includes former Portal/Left 4 Dead lead Kim Swift and is reported to be intertwined with the recent ongoing claims regarding Hideo Kojima & Microsoft forming an internal agreement to make more games for the platform.
