To those that regular an Android-enabled smart phone, xCloud has been around more just over half a year at this point. And with majority of the Xbox Game Pass library already available at your disposal, it leaves the question as to what next. Well ,Microsoft already confirmed that xCloud is aimed to arrive to PC & iOS in this coming spring.
But unlike a dedicated application on Android, the two versions will introduce a browser-based application which will run the game through the built-in browser rather than a client to download. Already, The Verge issued the first glimpse of how this will operate with fresh images of what xCloud will look like on the new devices.
However, it is still unclear as to when that will arrive. But, Microsoft nods that the announcement is sooner than we might think. “We’ve already announced that we’re bringing it [xCloud] to iOS and PC early this year,” Kevin Lachapelle, xCloud Vice President of Engineering explains. “So I won’t give you specific dates, but it’s not very far (winks).”
Excitingly, the team responsible for xCloud also shares that it is still pursuing new avenues for the service outside of what is already announced. Corporate Vice President of Xbox Cloud Gaming Kareem Choudhry shares, “what you’ve seen do so far is just the beginning. I’m not going to stop. We’re not going to stop. We’ve enabled could gaming on Android phones and tablets.
“We’ve already announced that we’re coming to PCs and iOS this year,” Chourhdy concludes with. In the past, Xbox lead Phil Spencer also shared the idea in which Microsoft is pursuing to look towards streaming sticks for xCloud. But, the Xbox company has yet to elaborate on how it will be executing that with the current standing of the service.
Additionally, Spencer in a previous interview also shared ambitions to make xCloud a free service. Similar to Google Stadia already, users would only need to own the game and can simply stream it to their device with no other barriers in their way. You can read the full report by heading here.
