The release of the final expansion for Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove with the King of Cards story expansion also marked the ending of development for the ongoing game since its initial release back in 2014. But despite the initial installment now being over with at Yacht Club Games, the team is looking to continue with the titular series leading on into the coming future.
When speaking on the Nintendo Power Podcast this past week, Director Seal Velasco tells that the studio still has their sights aimed to continue developing more titles set in the Shovel Knight universe.
We hope for many adventures in the future with Shovel Knight, y’know. We’ll be able to continue making Shovel Knight games for a really long time, and Dig is most likely going to be the next one that comes out.
This comes as an exciting reveal for fans who still want to experience more adventures throughout the world that Yacht Club Games have created. Expanding upon three different downloadable content expansions and a local PvP mode for the base game, there is still plenty of substance that the team could ad through new entries.
Additionally, the company is also taking the role as a publisher for Mechanical Head Studios’ Cyber Shadow. The title takes after the NES-styled aesthetic offering a new experience that complements the projects released by Yacht Club Games. Even more, the project is also described to take influence from different notorious titles from the same era like Ninja Gaiden and Contra.
Reiterating his statement more, Velasco then goes to state that the developer wishes to keep on making games related to Shovel Knight for as long as possible. “We’re gonna keep on making Shovel Knight stuff forever and ever and ever.” Again, this presumes reassurance for fans eager to see what new projects will be available for Shovel Knight series in the future.
As for now, Velasco already clarified that the co-developed project with Nitrome for Shovel Knight Dig will most likely be the next release for the titular franchise. So future games are expected to release follow suit when the team is ready to reveal the next installment.
Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove is out now for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Amazon Fire TV.
