For Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the game when shipping at the kickoff for the COVID-19 pandemic brought plenty of influence to the title as it swiftly climbed to being one of the top-selling releases for the platform. Currently, the game is marked at 40.17 million copies sold, second just behind 48.41 million for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
In terms of its content roadmap, it is surprising how the game fell off following the Happy Home Paradise expansion. In early 2020, it was said the team working on Animal Crossing: New Horizons would properly deliver years worth of content to the game. And so far, it has been successful nonetheless.
Enough so to be deemed the best-selling release for Nintendo Switch in Japan. According to a report done by @GameDataLibrary, it is revealed that Animal Crossing: New Horizons is not only the best sold Nintendo title, but the most sold release in history for the country. This overtakes Pokémon Red, Pokémon Blue, and Pokémon Green with a cumulative 10,230,000 million sold.

This is not the only major influence that Nintendo & Nintendo Switch had on the region in recent weeks. In September, it was not long before Splatoon 3 sold more than 3 million copies in Japan. Part of the financial report released this week, it shares the game overall is 7.90 million units globally. It is anticipated it could even tap into the top ten following the holiday season.
Additionally, other success stories in Japan comes from the likes of Microsoft believe it or not. Despite the platform’s rough status in this territory, it welcomed a new milestone. The system sold 100K units within a year’s time of its release. This feat was achieved roughly three years after the launch of the Xbox One previously. You can read the full report by heading here.
