The current atmosphere surrounding the Batman Arkham universe is pretty light regarding what future entries will come to the series. Although there has been countless teases that have emerged from Arkham Origins developer Warner Bros. Montreal on the transparent and unannounced Court of Owls title, we still have yet to receive proper confirmation of the game officially arriving as of writing.
In light of the mundane time of lacking information for Arkham fans, a new piece of concept art has leaked regarding yet another unestablished game from the Canadian studio. According to Twitter user @tatlinsky, the post shared an image of artwork from Joël Dos Reis Viegas which depicts a now cancelled Superman title.
The Twitter user tells that the concept art itself is derived from Veigas’ time when working at Warner Bros. Montreal. Even more, the plot thickens as the image for the Superman title was also discovered in the same tab as the images for the Suicide Squad game that never came to be as well: another project that was rumored for the studio, but never came to fruition.
Elsewhere, Geeks WorldWide’s James Sigfield disclosed to have multiple sources that the game was originally pitched by Arkham Knight team Rocksteady Studios to Warner Bros. Montreal, but was later declined to be pursued. Sigfield went on to create a thread backing Rocksteady’s ambitions in a follow-up Superman title for Arkham Knight.
While this might only sadden fans of hope for yet another DC-based title from becoming a reality, this does clarify a lot on the surface of things. Many speculated that Rocksteady themselves would be the ones to curate the supposed Man of Steel game, even after Studio Head Sefton Hill denounced the possibility in 2018. But now it is clear that the task was initially in Warner Bros. Montreal’s hands.
This is not the first time one of Warner Bros. Montreal’s Arkham Knight follow-up games never erected into something more. Just last year, a slew of concept art for Project Sabbath emerged online depicting a rundown Gotham City following the aftermath of the 2015 title and showcased images of included villains. Would you prefer the Superman game instead of the now developing Court of Owls title?
