After the success of the first two films, Paramount Studios & Sega are preparing with a major bang to top off the trilogy for Sonic the Hedgehog. In 2024, the property is prepared to kick things off with two releases. The first comes later in April with Knuckles – a Paramount+ miniseries which plans to release all six episodes upon arrival.
Additionally, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is set to release this winter. It was announced in summer 2022 that Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is to arrive in December later this year. Just this past week, it was revealed by director Jeff Fowler that the third film has officially wrapped on filming. Details remain sparse on the new movie, but it is clear Sonic will face Shadow the Hedgehog as noted by the previous teaser revealed for the coming picture.
From one eagle-eyed user on X, @super_ult discovered one piece of information that can determine what will influence future films. In that, a filing with the United States Office of Copyright reveals that Paramount Pictures with Sega established a roster of titles that can be utilized for collaborative projects – of course, those being films.
The most obvious being the classic trio of Sonic the Hedgehog games which were already evident in the first two movies. Going into Sonic the Hedgehog 3, the influences point towards Sonic Adventure 2 from details on the production thus far. But in future reference, releases including Sonic Riders, Sonic Heroes, Sonic 06, and even Sonic Colors can bring a diverse cast of characters & stories to tell for the silver screen.
Currently, the world is anticipating the casting for Shadow the Hedgehog. Rumors recently point towards Star Wars prequel star Hayden Christensen to voice the antihero. In a separate development, it appears that Rouge the Bat is also on the table with Krysten Ritter (Breaking Bad, Jessica Jones) to be casted for the role.
