When reflecting back on the announcement, CrossFireX was a major announcement for the world to process. Developer Smilegate will be helming its classic multiplayer as its original release whilst Remedy Entertainment will tackle an all-new single-player experience set within the universe. It was not until February 2022 that the game officially arrived to Xbox & PC.

However, that dream was short lived for the teams responsible atop of excited players. In a new announcement recently, Smilegate Entertainment announced the CrossFireX is to be no more by this spring. In May, the servers are to shutdown for the game and that includes the Remedy Entertainment story as well. In-game purchases is said to be refunded for two weeks prior to the announcement.

“It is with the deepest regret that we are informing you of our decision to end support for CrossfireX on May 18, 2023. Since the launch of the game, we have worked tirelessly to bring it to a point where we can all be proud, and throughout it all we have had the honor and pleasure of supporting our players,” the team writes in the blog post.

“Coming to this decision was not easy, however, we can proudly say that our players have been amazingly active, passionate and enthusiastic in working with us to create a game that would be fun and enjoyable by all. We want to thank each and every one of our players for playing CrossfireX and being a part of this journey with us.”

In the official FAQ, Smilegate lists: “If you have previously purchased either of the single player campaigns, then you will be  able to enjoy and complete them until servers close.” However, Remedy Entertainment fans do still have something to look forward to in 2023. In that, Alan Wake II is still scheduled to release later this year. You can read the full report by heading here.
