Video games as a media restricted solely to consoles seems to be shifting as some of the most influential titles in the industry are being adapted into film, television, and other forms of entertainment. Witnessing Devil May Cry’s debut for Netflix along with The Witcher which is reported to air later this year, the same is coming for Studio MDHR’s Cuphead as well.
Alongside the game’s developer, Netflix announced that 1930s-influenced platformer will be receiving its own animated series which will star the name sharing protagonist along with his brother, Mugman. Given the name ‘The Cuphead Show!,’ the show will be run with the studio’s Moldenhauer brothers as Executive Producers for the upcoming series. As well as King Features Syndicate partnering in the project as CJ Kettler also given the role as an Executive Producer.
“The game that has won the hearts and minds of fans with its gorgeous retro hand-animated style, crazy boss-brawls, and challenging gameplay will come to life on television for the first time ever in The Cuphead Show!,” the post reads. “The new series will expand on the characters and world of Cuphead, with an animation style inspired by the classic Fleischer cartoons from the 1930s.”
An eye catching note is that the show’s Producer will be Emmy recipient Dave Wasson, who is most known for his work on Mickey Mouse Shorts. Beside Wasson with Cosmo Segurson who worked on Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling as co-Executive Producer for the show. The two being part of the series does align well when aiming to imitate the animation style that Studio MDHR achieved with Cuphead.
Just last week, Studio MDHR revealed that the upcoming Delicious Last Course DLC, which will feature Ms. Chalice as a new playable character, has been pushed to next year with a 2020 release.
Word on when the new series starring Cuphead & Mugman has yet to reveal when fans can expect the series to go live.
