In the range of Castlevania content, the series as a video game IP has certainly been stagnant for quiet a handful of years. Whilst publisher Konami has answered cries for the hiatus on Silent Hill this past fall, the latter franchise is still nowhere to be seen. Granted, a new game release for Apple Arcade previously – Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls – but a full-on mainline installment has been absent for roughly a decade if not more.
Given the continuous speculation online, claims handled by Video Game Chronicles disclose the Japanese publisher handling the licensing to a third-party team to create a “reimagining” of sorts for the series. Additionally, Castlevania is receiving a new spin-off series on Netflix as well. Most noted is the recent reveal from The Game Awards with Dead Cells: Return to Castlevania on the way for release in 2023.
At the most recent Nintendo Direct on Wednesday, developer Motion Twin revealed Dead Cells: Return to Castlevania is arriving early next month. You can watch the gameplay trailer in the video below:
“The inspiration behind it all returns to its 2D action roots! Castlevania’s unforgettable characters & gothic setting meet the fast-paced combat of the award-winning roguelite Dead Cells in this unprecedented collaboration. A gateway to a striking castle has suddenly appeared, and an imposing warrior called Richter asks you to help him vanquish the great evil within.”
The description on the Nintendo eShop continues reading, “Enticed by the promise of new loot rather than a sense of moral duty, you strike out through the grounds and corridors of the gothic castle to find and kill this mysterious Dracula… Slay hordes of his supernatural minions as you progress through our biggest.”
