Elden Ring Reported To Topple Total Of Game Of The Year Awards Previously Helmed By The Last Of Us Part II

When it came to 2022’s Game of the Year award, it would be a tough decision this year. In The Game Awards’ nomination list, it included A Plague Tale: Requiem, Elden Ring, God of War Ragnarok, Horizon Forbidden West, Stray, and Xenoblade Chronicles 3. Came the ending of the show in December, it was revealed FromSoftware’s Elden Ring took the award.

In our review for the game, Rectify Gaming also boasted the potential for the game to be in the nominations for the award way back at the start of 2022. “When I say that Elden Ring has quickly become one of my favorite games of all time, I am not exaggerating that fact. It has all the best elements of my favorite games in one package,” writes critic Michael Merchant.

Recently, a ResetEra post online has surfaced bringing a lot of chatter about the extensive praise for Elden Ring. In that, user a0mineda1k1 created a tracking site for total awards provided for Game of the Year and the latest winner has surpassed the previous holder for most awards. Before, Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part II held that place after dethroning CD projekt Red’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

However, Elden Ring is now said to be in that position. According to the aforementioned website, Elden Ring currently sits at a total 362 awards. In comparison, 2020’s The Last of Us Part II is measured with 322 awards. Noted, the counting is still in progress for Elden Ring and a future update could further place Elden Ring ahead than currently.

Shortly after the early success of Elden Ring, publisher Bandai Namco did comment on further establishing the IP beyond video games. “We will continue our efforts in expanding the brand beyond the game itself, and into everyone’s daily life. We will continue to create enjoyment and fulfillment through entertainment, so that we can come closer and connect to our fans around the world.” You can read the full report by heading here.
