The Nintendo Switch 2 is less than a month away and the console has come with a new suite of concerns for many players. Although the hardware certainly exceeds the original Nintendo Switch 2, the issue is how games are delivered with the new console. Although there are titles like Nintendo first-party that will come completely on the cartridge – including its Switch 2 Edition titles – other developers are not entertaining it.

Excluding Cyberpunk 2077 that is coming completely in the package, there is a caveat: Game-Key Card. Nintendo shared that the new red cartridge will introduce either 64 GB or Game-Key Card. Since then, industry leaders have been vocal on the decision: Nightdive Studios CEO Stephen Kick described it as “disheartening”.

However, some game distributors are taking it into their own hands. Following the announcement for Game-Key Cards, Canadian company Video Games Plus shared that it will be issuing reprints with the full game on the cartridge upon partnerships with respected publishers. On X, it made a post revealing that it is interested in delivering the complete game to its customers.

And following PAX East that took place earlier this month, Limited Run Games has confirmed that its numbered titles are to also be the full game on the cartridge. Speaking to Boss Rush, a marketing representative for Limited Run Games did clarify that a publishing partnership could still introduce Game-Key Cards if decided by the publisher.

But, not all games will be released physically for Nintendo Switch 2. It was confirmed that Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour is an interactive experience coming to the new system will only be a digital download. It was confirmed more recently to launch priced at $10. Are you relieved that Game-Key Cards won’t consume Nintendo Switch 2?
