In terms of the plans for developer Rockstar Games, the firm is occupied with a few projects in relevance to the Grand Theft Auto IP. For starters, the next-generation versions for Grand Theft Auto is coming to Xbox Series X|S & PlayStation 5 next year. The project initially slated for this November was recently pushed to a new release aimed for March 2022 instead.

Additionally, Rockstar Games is also preparing the release of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition. In total, it is a bundle of all three games from the PlayStation 2/Original Xbox era: Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto Vice City, Grand Theft Auto San Andreas. It was previously rumored to be reworked in Unreal Engine 4. The claim was later verified with a November release date for the project.

But oddly enough at the Facebook Keynote that took place on Thursday, CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that Grand Theft Auto San Andreas is coming to Oculus Quest 2.

We announced that the Rockstar Games classic Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is in development for Quest 2. Get a new perspective on Los Santos, San Fierro, and Las Venturas as you experience (again or for the first time) one of gaming’s most iconic open worlds. This is a project many years in the making, and we can’t wait to show you more of it.

This is not the first instance that Oculus announced a similar project that blew expectations out of proportions. In that, it previously announced to be reviving the Medal of Honor IP with Respawn Entertainment for Medal of Honor: Above & Beyond. The game later went on to win an Oscar for Best Documentary Short Subject.

More recently this month, Oculus went on to deliver a native port for Resident Evil 4. The 2005 game has been completely translated to virtual reality in collaboration with Capcom. You can read the full report by heading here.
