For those that can recall from the Xbox Anniversary Livestream that took place two weeks ago, Microsoft & 343 Industries shipped the multiplayer (in beta form) for Halo Infinite at the time. Despite the game prepared to ship later on in December, the free-to-play model for the game is currently out for everyone on Xbox & PC to play. And following that comes with surprising results to the conversation of concurrent player counts.
Over on Steam, Halo Infinite swiftly became the first Xbox Game Studios title to overcome 200,000 active players on Steam, according to @BenjiSales. Now, the game is recorded to have a record of 250,619 at the moment. It appears that perhaps the title also influenced active Steam player counts over at SteamDB as it reports the new record of 27 million users has been broken from its April milestone set at 26.9 million then.
More exciting is that Halo Infinite despite still weeks away has also made its way to the top-played release on Xbox according to the platform storefront.
While the concurrent player count does fluctuate as many titles do with active timeframes shifting accordingly, Halo Infinite manages to outperform Battlefield 2042 on Steam as well. @BenjiSales illustrates that roughly three times the amount of players were logged in on Halo Infinite in comparison to Battlefield 2042 last week.
Recently, 343 Industries announced that Halo Infinite has officially gone gold solidifying the game’s release date for December 8th. That is to deliver the official multiplayer for Halo Infinite alongside the acclaimed story campaign that is also included as well. In terms of future additions, May 2021 is said to expect co-op campaign with Season 2 also slated simultaneously. For Forge Mode, that could be by the end of 2022.
Elsewhere in terms of active players for games from Microsoft, Forza Horizon 5 officially achieved 10 million users in its first week. Prior to the announcement, 1 million purchased the Premium Edition of the game followed by 4.5 million playing at launch via Xbox Game Pass. You can read the full report by heading here.
