For those that continuously frequent the ongoing Forza Horizon series, there is only one game standing – Forza Horizon 4. Retracing our steps back to August last year, developer Playground Games announced that 2016’s Forza Horizon 3 would be delisted the following month in September. Alike prior installments before, the licensed music for the games are what leaves the releases to be removed from online stores.
However, that is not to say that the franchise is thriving. Coming this past March, Playground Games announced a huge milestone for the team. Upon debuting Forza Horizon for Steam, Forza Horizon 4 sits to be the most-played racing title in the entire genre on the platform. Now looking ahead, it is evident to say there will be fans awaiting the inevitable fifth installment.
While details for the coming entry is still undetermined, industry insiders begin to poke at their followers with small teases. On Twitter, Windows Central’s Jez Corden & GamesBeat’s Jeff Grubb both emphasize that a certain racing game is going to Mexico as they practice their Spanish.
Most likely the hints from the two are suggesting a new release for the Forza Horizon series is coming this year. Noted, the already revealed Forza Motorsport reboot is still in early testing which Turn 10 Studios reiterates with the Forza Panel recently. So the chances of a new Forza Horizon is in favor for this year especially with no competition for Electronic Arts either,
In a report from Polygon at the beginning of March, it was indicated that Criterion Games will postpone further development for its next Need for Speed title. As the developer moves on to work on 2021’s Battlefield, its inaugural return to helming development on the franchise is presumed to bleed into 2022 to launch.
If the claims are true for a new Forza Horizon game to arrive later this year, the fifth entry will be another project that Playground Games is juggling.
