In late July shortly after following then-recent Xbox Games Showcase which presented next-generation entries like Halo Infinite and The Medium, Phil Spencer when speaking with iJustine disclosed that Microsoft would be prepping more details on the hardware of the Xbox Series X. At the time when referencing the system’s backwards compatibility among other features offered on the new console, it led to hope of the announcement for the lower-scaled unit.
That being the Xbox Series S, many users who follow the band of news surrounding Microsoft’s next wave for the console generation should already be familiar with the unannounced system. In brief, it is a 4 Teraflop unit that will stand as the platform’s Xbox One S iterating for the next-generation. Going by the name Project Lockhart as far as 2018, it was presumed the console would be unveiled by now.
But now entering the first day of September, it is unsure when the firm will make the announcement. But while the wait is still underway, another piece of evidence suggesting the system’s presence leaked online. Twitter user @BravarianBrendan shared an advertisement for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate which explicitly references the Xbox Series S.
“Includes Xbox Live Gold and unlimited access to over 100 high-quality games on Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One, and Windows 10,” the provided advertisement reads. But this certainly is not the first instance of the console being leaked through official Microsoft paraphernalia. Last month, another user who managed to purchase the branded controller for the Xbox Series X also lists the Xbox Series S on the package for the gamepad.
But with the new generation slated for this coming November as told by Microsoft, it would imply that time is very limited before Microsoft makes the announcement now. While it is difficult when exactly to determine when the reveal would take place, the evidence provided only solidifies the reality that Xbox Series S is planned alongside its beefier sibling system.
