Grasping the plans for what is to come from RGG Studio, the Japanese developer is preparing to deliver its next installment in its spin-off series, Judgment. In that, Lost Judgment was announced earlier this summer and is prepared to arrive later on in September. But, the team is also preparing other plans for its future games as well.
Following the success of Yakuza: Like a Dragon, RGG Studio is given the green light to ship more of its games through the spectacle of worldwide releases from publisher Sega. Additionally, the developer also explained its desire to continue releasing the Yakuza IP as a multiplatform release. Howbeit, details on the next installment has yet to be revealed as of writing.
In an interview with The Gamer recently, RGG Studio explains that its setting of Japan for most of its recent projects will potentially expand to other countries outside of its native region. Lost Judgment Director Kazuki Hosokawa presses on the matter lightly by opening to new opportunity for users to experience, explore, and soak in overall outside of what is already standard for the studio’s games.
Elsewhere in the discussion, Hosokawa explained his desire to create a new IP outside of the Yakuza framework, but comes satisfied with the progress so far for the release. “For the past six of seven years I’ve just been working on Yakuza, and had always been thinking about wanting to create a new IP. There were definitely a lot of ideas that weren’t greenlit, but one of the ideas that actually made it to launch was Judgment.
“There weren’t many uncertainties in my mind about fans not accepting something different, it was more of a mindset of really wanting to create something new, because I want to present an experience to players that is totally different from Yakuza. There’s a lot of limitations, because the framework is based on Yakuza, so it’s not an entirely separate universe, but I’m so happy I was able to realize this and create something.”
In regards to other progress for Lost Judgment, the IP might not expand further over on PC. According to a discovery over on Reddit, Sega’s talent agency Johnny’s is in opposition to games on the platform due to possible mods rearranging the appearance of its stars. If you could choose a setting outside of Japan for Yakuza/Judgment, where would it be?
