On Monday, it was officially announced that after its conception back in 2016 – Microsoft-owned Mixer would be no more. The firm shared the news abruptly as even employees for the streaming platform were not notified about the closure of the service until the day of. While motives as for the sudden disbanding of Mixer was unknown, there were some confirmed details that followed the announcement this week.

In that, Microsoft revealed to be partnering with Facebook Gaming to operate under with Mixer officially out of the picture now. As for partnered streamer that resided on the platform prior to its closure, those are willing to migrate to Twitch or follow Microsoft to Facebook Gaming. That includes Michael “Shroud” Grzesiek and Tyler “Ninja” Blevins who’s previous contracts with Microsoft has been voided following the announcement earlier this week.

However, following the new announcement of Microsoft’s collaboration with Facebook, many grew worried that would include new integration for Facebook onto Xbox. When using the Xbox One dashboard, Mixer had a dedicated section for users to access easily. At the time, it was presumed that would be replaced by Facebook Gaming.

That was until a later statement made by Xbox Director of Programming Larry Hyrb who clarified that was not the case in reality.

If you are asking if the current Mixer integration in the dashboard is just going to become Facebook gaming. The answer is no.

As of writing, it is still unsure the direction Microsoft plans on taking with Facebook Gaming as its main platform for streaming video game-related content. Of course, more will be revealed in the coming months seeing how sudden the company decided to terminate its current streaming platform integrated on Xbox.

Perhaps more will be revealed in a later Xbox 20/20 showcase that Microsoft has planned to host in the coming months leading to the Xbox Series X. In other related news for Mixer’s closure, it was reported that Ninja’s estimated $30 Million deal with Microsoft has been absorbed by Blevins as well as the reported $10 that Shroud earned from his respected agreement.
