New Steam Game File Updates Offer Free-To-Play Speculation Towards Concord’s Future

Earlier this summer, the release of Concord on PlayStation was one of the loudest for the platform. However, it was not in favor for the platform. Despite PlayStation Studios investing reportedly over $400 million towards the hero shooter, it failed to reach a lasting audience. It was calculated sales for the game only accounted for about 25,000 units.

And within the first two weeks of the game releasing, Sony Interactive Entertainment decided to pull the entire game from both Steam and the PlayStation Store? So what fate is left for Concord? One is that leadership is exiting. Game director Ryan Ellis that spearheaded most of the development for Concord has already stepped down from his role.

As for the game itself, speculation has circulated on the game exploring options to return as free-to-play. Especially how the game is structured, a $40 price tag did not seem appropriate for Concord. As per users on Reddit, PlayStation has been continuously updating Concord on Steam. Via SteamDB, updates for the game has been made as late as October 8th.

Certainly a free-to-play approach would be ideal for Concord, but is that enough? In Rectify Gaming’s review for Concord, the gameplay is there, but how it was handled upon releases was what earned it a 7/10 score. “While Concord has a long way to go before it can be considered a competitor to the likes of Overwatch or Valorant, it shouldn’t be written off entirely. […] Concord could potentially grow into a respectable entry in the team-based FPS genre.”

What’s more, the legacy from what was Concord will still be preserved elsewhere. As PlayStation anticipated the series to be a new blockbuster franchise for the platform, it doubled-down with an episode on Amazon’s Secret Levels. Despite the game currently shuttered, the dedicated episode for Concord will still remain, it is told. You can read the full report by heading here.
