The argument against Assassin’s Creed Shadows for majority of its life before release has remained at a standstill for a loud chunk online. And it appeared that Ubisoft has even taken into consideration these comments with multiple delays as well as walling further media coverage last year. But in the first week following the official release, it is tracking better than users were hoping.
Hours after launch, Ubisoft announced that Assassin’s Creed Shadows sold more than 1 million copies. That number went on to double within the first week. The publisher went on to announce that the game reached 2 million in just a few days. Reports also suggest now that the game is tracking to being the second biggest launch for the IP as well.
Amid the continued controversy for many users, notable Japanese developer Hideki Kamiya does speak out on the matter. Via a post on X, Kamiya elaborates on the state of Assassin’s Creed Shadows; speaking in defense of the game. “I felt bad that it was being criticized so much, but I’m glad that it seems to be doing well in both sales and reviews…,” he said in the post.
Kamiya goes on to write in the thread: “This isn’t limited to this case, but while there are a few super-intense people who make a big fuss saying, ‘I won’t tolerate that!’, the other majority of normal people who take an ‘it’s fine’ stance are basically silent…I wonder if there’s no way to make these ‘normal people’ equally visible in everything…”
Rectify Gaming in our review for the game scored Assassin’s Creed Shadows an 8.5/10. “[It] successfully revitalizes the franchise by introducing a compelling setting, well-developed characters, and innovative gameplay mechanics. Its blend of action, stealth, and cultural immersion offers a rich and engaging experience that both honors the series’ roots and pushes its boundaries.” You can read the full review by heading here.
