PlayStation remains to be a powerhouse in the video game industry with its Game of the Year-nominated releases with both God of War Ragnarok & Horizon Forbidden West last year alongside the growing features that roll out for its latest PlayStation 5. The most previous sales report told that the system overtook 32 million systems sold – just short of the Nintendo 64 lifetime sales.
And while the firm does continue to conquer compared to the Xbox Series X|S, Microsoft’s system appeared to be claiming more market share according to one report. Regardless, both are facing record-breaking sales for each platform. It appears Sony is even delving into dedicated portable hardware according to a new report from Insider Gaming last month also.
From corporate Sony recently, the PlayStation 5 is reported to now faces sales beyond 38 million units. You can view the slide from the earnings report in the image below:
Since last reflecting on the VGChartz lifetime sales, the PlayStation 5 has claimed two more victims: now overtaking the Nintendo 64 (32.93 million) and Sega Genesis (34.06 million). Currently, the PlayStation 5’s next target appears to be the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) which is recorded to be 49.10 million units overall.
After two years, the PlayStation 5 appears to be receiving its first specialized console bundle – kinda. In that, Square Enix is to roll out a PlayStation 5 bundle for Final Fantasy XVI. But it was also revealed that themed plates for the PlayStation 5 marked with the game’s logo is available in Japan. You can read the full report by heading here.
