Report: Banner Saga Team Stoic Studios Working On New Xbox Exclusive Codenamed Project Belfry

For over the past month or so, roughly a handful of Xbox Game Studios leaked properties continues to leak through the cracks online. The first major story comes from Windows Central discussing two titles codenamed Project Indus and Project Cobalt. The pair are said to be developed by Oxide Games and InXile Entertainment respectively. But, of course, more was disclosed later on for other IPs.

In that, Windows Central went on to report on a story for an unannounced, “cloud-native” MMO developed by developer Mainframe. The Finnish team notes its involvement for such a project, but the outlet ties the game studio to Xbox. Additionally, the publication also mentions Project Shaolin which is an action RPG from BrassLion Entertainment which is working on a Wu-Tang Clan-themed title.

Further feeding Xbox Game Studios speculation is a new report from Jeff Grubb. On his now-deleted episode of Grubbsnax Giant Bomb show, he tells that a new project is underway similar to Dragon’s Crown and features a ‘Princess Mononoke’ aesthetic as well. In a later story by Windows Central, the website corroborates the claim.

In that, codenamed ‘Belfry’ as both identify the project as is told by Windows Central to be a new title developed by Banner Saga team Stoic Studios. Atop of that, Jez Corden notes that the alleged project fits the description for what he heard through the grapevine and later by Grubb this week; namely the Belfry system which stands to be a base of operations for the game.

But unlike the previous Banner Saga series, the new game will be a side-scroller experience that shares the same art design. This includes a new brawler system and a crafting feature which is to tie into the Belfry which players will constantly return to in-game. There is no current information as for when an announcement will take place from either statements.

Do you hope Project Belfry will come to fruition or no?
