This past June was an enticing month for Sony when it came time to showcase what exactly is underway for the next-generation console that is the PlayStation 5. Even more, fans were able to view the new system for the first time alongside the unexpected reveal of the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition – a digital-focused unit that ships without a Bluray disc drive. However, that was not all the firm had to offer according to some voices in the industry.

As shared by Eurogamer Tom Phillips on Twitter today, Sony actually had more in store to show off for the coming system, but decided to withhold the announcement for a later State of Play this coming summer. In that, Phillips lists in the original tweet that the State of Play will take place sometime this August.

In a response to a question regarding the forecast for the supposed State of Play, Phillips states that it will include in-house projects alongside other third-party games that he phrases Sony “smartly held” for a later showing.

Regarding what the contents of this new presentation might be could be a few things. But to pull this unfortunate band-aid – it does not look to be Silent Hill. While excited followers are hopeful to see the fan-favorite series make a return, these receipts say otherwise. In that, fans believe the game is to make a return following a rumor which indicated that Sony would be rebooting the franchise alongside an episodic series of Silent Hills as part of an undergoing acquisition of the property from Konami.

But the discussions of said projects look to not be the case as it has been shot down three times by related entities. The first comes from Konami North America which it denounces the projects being in development. Secondly, Hideo Kojima shares to be unfamiliar of the whereabouts for the property as well with him also flattening the claims of the Silent Hills resurrection project. The most recent comes from Kojima Productions which released a statement sharing that its relationship with Konami is not “cordial” as it was falsely reported.

However, despite the flaking that the Silent Hill speculation has received in chances of returning soon, the same cannot be said for FromSoftware’s Bloodborne. Recently, industry insiders share that a PC port and potentially more for the title is underway; particularly, a PlayStation 5 version being in development. What do you hope to see come from the August State of Play?
