September 17th, 2013 was the day that Rockstar Games introduced Grand TheftAuto V to the world. And while the game broke records initially at launch making more than $1 billion in its first three days, the title ending the decade for the 2010s was recorded to be the most-sold entry even beating over a handful of Call of Duty titles.
Looking ahead, Rockstar Games is continuing this trend with the eight year-old title now that Xbox Series X|S & PlayStation 5 are out. The firm is planning to ship versions for the new hardware this coming March. Additionally, GTA Online is to be offered as a free experience, Take-Two Interactive announced originally. The firm also said PlayStation would get the free install three months ahead of other consoles.
From its latest Rockstar Newswire post, Rockstar Games elaborates on the future of Grand Theft Auto exploring the new additions coming to the approaching version of Grand Theft Auto V and beyond the legacy entry.
New GTA Online players will now enter the Career Builder, with instant access to their choice of one of four illicit businesses — Biker, Executive, Nightclub Owner, or Gunrunner — and a sizable GTA$ windfall to help select a property, high-end vehicle, and the firepower required to kickstart their enterprise. Returning players will also have the option to restart their character and take advantage of the Career Builder at any time.
The team adds, “The PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of GTA Online also include the new Hao’s Special Works auto shop, located within the LS Car Meet, which will allow players to upgrade select vehicles (5 new vehicles and 5 existing vehicles at launch) for elite driving performance that takes full advantage of the upgraded power of new console hardware.”
More importantly is that Rockstar Games elaborates on its next move for Grand Theft Auto, however, does not spare much information on the direction the next game is heading moving forward. “With the unprecedented longevity of GTAV, we know many of you have been asking us about a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series.
“With every new project we embark on, our goal is always to significantly move beyond what we have previously delivered — and we are pleased to confirm that active development for the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway.” Previously, a report from Bloomberg Tech’s Jason Schreier told the sixth entry is to return to Vice City with another trio of protagonists aimed for 2024/2025.
