Halo fans this month have been on a roller coaster of emotions following the abrupt delay for the next-generation title, Halo Infinite. Originally, 343 Industries aimed to ship the title by launch day for the Xbox Series X, but following the criticisms the game has faced alongside some internal complications within the development of the game, the team decided to extend the work time for the game into 2021.
Following the news breaking, Xbox head Phil Spencer told that the studio alongside himself did come to a possibility of offering Halo Infinite in separately released portions. However, the group ultimately decided it was best to push the entirety of the project to ship it as whole the following year. But with little detail to spare among what exactly swayed the delay, there is one rumor that might answer those question.
On ResetEra, poster Sponger disclosed that due to the now limiting Xbox One, 343 industries might be looking to scrap the version of the game for Halo Infinite.
Microsoft/343i is very busy with idea dropping Xbox One support for Halo Infinite.
Even idea to postpone it toe early 2022 is on the table. It’s pretty messed up there with decisions but they were convinced that they need to make best Halo game ever.
As for how the Xbox One version of the title is said to function, the user discloses that the game struggles to properly establish 900p resolution and even tanks below that at time also. Sponger frames the port to be even worse to the demo presented from last month. Even more, they disclose that 343 Industries is searching for different tweaks and adjustments to make the Xbxo One version stay afloat.
“Idea is to change at the engine level how assets load, make RT as default (improve/”unlock” some assets), improve geometry, post-processing and add more CPU bound interactivity,” the user wrote in the post. But in the grand scheme of attempting this could seriously compromise the experience just to align the build with the PC and Xbox Series X versions on more capable hardware – leaving the team better off to scrap the version altogether.
Taken that this is still la rumor, it should be noted that Sponger has been verified to be a reliable source. Last month, @Klobrille on Twitter told that the ResetEra user was “legit” with their claims regarding Obsidian Entertainment’s Avowed. You can read the full report by heading here.
