What seems to be a lifetime ago is the original announcement from Sabotage Studio for new JRPG Sea of Stars. Originally revealed back in March 2020, the game was introduced to be a prequel to The Messenger as it poses being a Chrono Trigger spiritual successor. Not only that, original composer Yasunori Mitsuda is collaborating for the Sea of Stars OST as well.
It was not until late 2021 that the crowdfunded project revealed a holiday 2021 release window was slated for Sea of Stars. With the amount of backing the game received through its supporters, Sabotage Studio went the extra mile to deliver a completed package. It was not until this past December a new summer 2023 launch window was given.
Now from the recent Nintendo Direct on Wednesday, Sea of Stars is confirmed to ship this August. A demo is now live on the Nintendo eShop. You can watch the new trailer in the video below:
“Sea of Stars tells the story of two Children of the Solstice who combine the powers of the sun and moon to perform Eclipse Magic, the only force capable of fighting off the monstrous creations of an evil alchemist known as The Fleshmancer,” the description on the official Nintendo eShop page reads.
With the careful development that Sabotage Studio endured in delivering The Messenger previously – and receiving the praise it did from Ninja Gaiden creators Hideo Yoshizawa & Keiji Yamagishi – it is possible the same level of respected will be handed for Sea of Stars. It already does in some aspect with Mitsuda involved already. You can read the initial report by heading here.
