While developer The Initiative was founded just less than a handful of years ago, it feels even longer anticipating an announcement for the Santa Monica-based studio’s first project. In the up and coming for the team’s unveiling, GamesBeat’s Jeff Grubb told that Perfect Dark was likely to be the case. However, he did word that the title is to be a loose interpretation of the original Rare release from nearly two decades ago.
It was not until 2020’s The Game Awards that The Initiative officially announced Perfect Dark is its game underway. However, massive changes went underway at The Initiative since its announcement. In that, industry veteran Drew Murray announced his exit from the developer. Murray later went on to disclose his return to Insomniac Games as a Principal Designer.
On Thursday, The Initiative’s official Twitter account announced a development partnership with Crystal Dynamics (Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Marvel’s Avengers).

“We are partnering with Crystal Dynamics, the world class team behind character-driven games such as Tomb Raider, to bring this first-person spy thriller to a new generation,” the post announces. It is unsure the position the usual Square Enix team will be for Perfect Dark, but gathered by the wording might be involved in delivering the game for console – namely Xbox Series X|S.
In other The Initiative news as of late, it was discovered that another developer of a PlayStation (console) exclusive will be working on Perfect Dark now as well.
