Developer Respawn Entertainment before its current stardom with the continuously growing battle royale Apex Legends was associated with a different first-person shooter experience, Titanfall. And many fans should already know, the free-to-play experience is set within the Titanfall universe which gives the team leeway to further expand on the source material. However, this led to the developer ultimately shelving future projects for the series.
Back in February 2019 during the arrival of Apex Legends, Respawn Entertainment founder Vince Zampella disclosed that any projects at the firm is not the highly-anticipated follow-up for Titanfall. And despite what was told by those helming the studio, fans were still hopeful of the series returning at a later date. But as time went on for Apex Legends entering its third season just over a year ago, Electronic Arts verified that 2020 will be the year for Respawn Entertainment to dedicate its time towards the IP.
The publisher does disclose that while certain emphasis will be placed on the battle royale, Respawn Entertainment certainly has not forgotten about Titanfall just yet. Entering 2020 to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of founding for Respawn Entertainment, Zampella reiterated on his statement from the year prior stating that “there’s nothing currently in development.”
Now with Apex Legends welcoming in Season 6 last month, Titanfall fans are still left hungry for new information on the series. But in a new set of claims from leakers familiar with Respawn Entertainment, the firm is just beginning to kick off development for the highly-requested Titanfall 3. According to @tHeNeOn_BeAst on Twitter, the Apex Legends content creator claims the follow-up is underway. “Titanfall 3 is for real. I’m pretty sure leakers can say the same, cuz we have totally different sources. The good thing is: even with different sources, the rumor is exactly the same.”
In addition to the statement made, well-known dataminer @Biast12 also chimed in to state the claim is legitimate. In that, the user verifies what was told by Winchester before the tweet was deleted. “Yeah, I can confirm that part,” the user told in the now-deleted post. For more tangible hope on the claim, the dataminer correctly revealed the GLaDOS weapon charm for Apex Legends Steam version premature to the announcement of the port.
While plenty of what was said does hold weight to possibly be accurate in favor of Titanfall 3 being development, it is still quite a while away for Respawn Entertainment to ship out. When reiterating on Zampella’s statement in May if the claims happen to be true, the firm most likely initiated development/conception for the follow-up only a few months ago. So the wait time is likely to exceed past next year for 2021.
Noted, Respawn Entertainment does operate with two studios – its inaugural Sherman Oaks office and Vancouver-based team prioritizing development on Apex Legends – fans could expect the game sooner as the developer has less on its plate with the battle royale receiving a dedicated developer. But ultimately, time will reveal if that is the case or not.
Would you play Titanfall 3 if it ever comes out?
