Ubisoft’s messaging to is users is direct and mixed when viewed from any direction. In one perspective, it is clear the firm is eager to support its ‘Ubisoft Originals’ banner with ground-breaking single-player games, but also live-service as well. With that, it is confirmed that xDefiant – the next Call of Duty competitor – is coming later this May.
Additionally, the firm is mixed on the direction for other projects. Previously, it was reported that Watch Dogs is now out of the picture entirely. This follows another report that a live-action film is being developed as well. As well as The Division Heartland which also shuttered its development as well; another IP planning a film release.
One of the remaining concrete franchises is Assassin’s Creed. Recently, it was revealed that the series is heading to Japan after years of fan outcry. Assassin’s Creed Shadows ships this fall with a new setting and two playable protagonists. But, concerns arose online when it was uncovered that the game asks for an online connection. However, Ubisoft clarifies that the reasoning is simply for the installation exclusively.
“We wanted to share some early information on the upcoming launch of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, following some questions we’ve noticed in the community. Assassin’s Creed Shadows will not require a mandatory connection at all times. An online connection will be needed to install the game, but you will be able to play the entire journey offline, and explore Japan without any online connection,” the letterhead from the post reads.
Alike Assassin’s Creed Shadows, another AAA project recently confirmed it will be playable offline. In a update from the Redfall X account, it was clarified offline mode is still underway for the game following the developer’s closure. You can read the full report by heading here.
