It would be an understatement to celebrate the current state of Warner Bros. Games as anything more than disappointing. While its aim was high with Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, the game ultimately came down crashing hard with the final nail in the coffin releasing recently. Similarly, the same fate was also dished to Multiversus as well as the latest season will be the last wave of support for the platform brawler.
As for its future plans, the firm is still active in releasing new games. In a previous earnings call, Warner Bros. Discovery has issued that its focus on games includes DC Comics, Mortal Kombat, Harry Potter, and Game of Thrones. And that is already understood with Portkey Games & Avalanche Software is working on the next Hogwarts Legacy title.
But, what else could be in the pipeline. Well, there was two major DC Comics titles that were canned internally. According to Bloomberg, Warner Bros. Montreal was working on a video game centered around The Flash. However, the poor response to the film when releasing in 2023 did shelve development indefinitely.
In the same vein, there was also a chance for a Constatine game too. But unlike The Flash, the game was only pitched and swiftly rejected by leadership at Warner Bros. Games. So work never officially picked up for the conjuring anti-hero. Nonetheless, it does feel like a missed opportunity with the second film starring Keanu Reeves is in early production.
What Warner Bros. Games is still pursuing for its DC Comics titles is still years away. From the same Bloomberg report, it is disclosed that a new Rocksteady Studios Batman game is underway. While exciting, it is written off to being years away from release. And, Monolith Productions’ Wonder Woman is also in the same lane with a reboot on its development too.
