The current path for Xbox while ambitious still remains questionable for those that are invested into the ecosystem. With confirmation for a new console is underway at the Xbox firm, the lingering connotation is how it handles its titles. Because the next anticipated release – Indiana Jones and the Great Circle – is also releasing on PlayStation. Insiders has nodded that the line is drawn at that game, but it is not a direct confirmation.
Additionally, the firm is also toying with more than one device as well. Previous reports have indicated that Microsoft is interested in a handheld device for the next-generation machine – whatever that is. What’s more, it has been verified that what this new plan is, it is not a hybrid device atoning to the Nintendo Switch as many speculated before.
In a new interview with Bloomberg, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer has enlightened on these topics. For one, he does reveal that Xbox is developing a new portable system for its platform. “[E]xpectation is that we would do something. Longer term, I love us building devices. And I think our team could do some real innovative work, but we want to be informed by learning and what’s happening now.” Spencer does confirm that this project will take years before it is fully realized.
During the same interview, he also sheds on the possibility of more acquisitions for Xbox in the future. Despite the years it took for Microsoft to fulfill its $70 billion payment for Activision Blizzard King, the firm is still hungry for more talent. Spencer also goes on to share good sentiment for the future of the industry while knocking on the recently released PlayStation 5 Pro.
“I feel pretty good about where this industry is going,” he says. Adding: “To reach new players, we need to be creative and adaptive of new business models, new devices, new ways of access. We’re not going to grow the market with $1,000 consoles.” But, Spencer does express that despite hesitancy for Xbox games on competing platform, there is no redline to be crossed; any game is on the table.
