One of the most-anticipated releases for the Xbox Series X came during its announcement back in 2020 – Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II. The sequel was announced as a platform exclusive following developer Ninja Theory being acquired by Microsoft previously. Since then, we learned that development cost Microsoft about $117 million as per FTC filings that wanted to counter the Activision Blizzard King purchase then.
Our review for Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II scored the follow-up a 10/10 upon release last year. “Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II delivers top-tier storytelling, which is some of the best I’ve seen in video games. The narration throughout is masterfully crafted, keeping players gripped to their controllers throughout the journey. The connection between characters in Hellblade 2 is incredibly strong, with powerful emotions and outstanding voice acting deserving a ton of credit.”
Now in the current wave of Xbox multiplatform releases, Xbox Game Studios & Ninja Theory announced that Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II is to launch for PlayStation 5 later this summer. The announcement comes just weeks following Gears of War: Reloaded as well which is to share the summer release window later this August.
“Over the past few months, we’ve been working hard to fully optimise Hellblade II for PS5 and PS5 Pro, to give you the very best experience we can. This version of the game will include some additional new features, which will also be released at the same time as a free update for players on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox PC and Steam,” Ninja Theory writes. “We’ll have more information to come soon, but for now we hope you can join us in celebrating Senua’s return to PlayStation.”
Recently, it was revealed that Xbox Game Studios continues to be the most popular publisher on the PlayStation Store. In both North America & Europe, the top three games of April 2025 were from Microsoft – The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, Forza Horizon 5, and Minecraft.
