Alan Wake II Receives October 17 Release Date In New Trailer

Over at Remedy Entertainment, the Finnish game studio remains with a full plate as more projects pile up. Already, the developer confirmed that remakes for Max Payne & Max Payne 2: The Fall for Max Payne was in development. Additionally, a second entry for Control was also underway. But it was announced over a year ago that Alan Wake II was officially on the way.

More recently, we’ve witnessed concept art for the decade-long wait sequel to give an idea of the tone the follow-up will offer. In a separate statement, CEO Tero Virtala shared that the game is already in a playable state which is a good sign it releases this year as promised. And over the past week, reports told that Alan Wake II is aiming to ship in October this fall.

At the recent PlayStation Showcase, Remedy Entertainment unveiled a first gameplay trailer and the October release date for the game. You can watch the trailer in the video below:

Unlike the original Alan Wake, the new installment features a second playable character, Saga Anderson. “The game begins with Anderson coming to investigate the murders in Bright Falls with her veteran fellow agent Alex Casey. After certain events have transpired, fans can play Wake and Anderson’s respective stories in any order they choose. Their journeys echo and foreshadow each other, in this intense atmospheric story, taking players on two separate dark and disturbing paths.”

“A string of ritualistic murders threatens Bright Falls, a small-town community surrounded by the Pacific Northwest wilderness. Anderson, an accomplished FBI agent with a reputation for solving impossible cases, arrives to investigate the murders. Soon the events spiral into a nightmare when she discovers pages of a horror story that start to come true around her. Somehow the events seem to lead to Alan Wake, the horror writer who went missing 13 years ago,” communications director Thomas Puha writes.
