
While many fans showed to be deprived of a fulfilling Battlefield title especially after the release of Battlefield V, many grew impatient when discovering that a new game is on the way. Upon announcing Battlefield 2042, developer DICE illustrated its aim for a core multiplayer experience with this being the first to not include a single-player story mode. Additionally, the team alongside Ripple Effect Studios in working on a new project, Battlefield Portal.
The formerly titled DICE LA team with Respawn Entertainment founder Vince Zampella managing the studio unveiled the new community driven initiative which meshes a handful of previous Battlefield titles into one experience. That includes Battlefield 3, Battlefield Bad Company 2, and Battlefield 1942. This atop of the promised cross-play for the game is sure to establish a long-lasting audience for the series moving forward.
In a new announcement on Tuesday, developer DICE announced Battlefield 2042 is expecting an open beta coming this following weekend. On October 8 – October 9 will the Battlefield 2042 playtest be available for supported platforms. Even more, EA Play/pre-order holders will gain early access to the open beta starting October 6th. This also includes Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers as well.
“Adapt and overcome in the near-future, all-out war of Battlefield 2042. Put boots on the ground in the classic Conquest mode on Orbital – a map where enemy fire and chaotic weather conditions can help or hinder your fight,” DICE writes for the overview of the open beta in the provided FAQ for the multiplayer playtest.
Noted, however, DICE goes on to press that the open beta is not to carry over progress made when the full game releases. Additionally, the team does not elaborate is cross-play will be enabled for consoles and PC when the online testing goes live next week. Those anticipating Battlefield Portal will also be disappointed as the feature is not shipping until November, the FAQ reiterates.
