Since the release of the long-awaited Borderlands 3 in fall 2019, fans continue to pour in for the following content that drops for the game periodically. And for developer Gearbox Software, the team planned so much for the third entry that it all could not fit into one singular Season Pass. It was not until this past April that the final piece of promised content, The Director’s Cut, that the team is finished with the game finally in its post-launch phase.
However, Gearbox found itself under new ownership prior to that which came interesting for the future of Borderlands. In that, THQ Nordic parent company Embracer Group welcomed to firm as the seventh subsidiary to the gaming conglomerate. But, there is some reassurance to the report. Following the reveal, Embracer Group verified the partnership between 2K & Gearbox Software will resume following the arrangement.
Recently rumors surfaced that Gearbox Software’s next major project regarding Borderland would be a spin-off entry. However, before the claim took the high ground, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford deplatform the rumors on Twitter.
Although Borderlands is not a stranger to standalone releases in the past, i.e. Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, the firm is officially not pursuing a new release disconnected from the main franchise currently. Even more, the firm does not plan to or to ever expand to an additional team to work on a new game regarding the Borderlands IP either.
Elsewhere previously in regards to Borderlands, the coming motion picture directed by Eli Roth casts Star Wars Battlefront II star Janina Gavankar.
