Capcom’s Onimusha Receives Anime Adaptation, Coming To Netflix This November

One of the surprising standards with Capcom in current time is its close ties to Netflix. While the firm has experimented with films through Sony Pictures, recently the Japanese publisher has worked through Netflix almost exclusively for its latest adaptations. This includes Dragon’s Dogma, Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, the live-action Resident Evil show as well as the upcoming Mega Man film & Devil May Cry animated series too.

However, the two are collaborating once more with a new animated series based on the fan-favorite Onimusha series. Despite the series remaining dormant for over a handful of years, Capcom is returning to the franchise once more with a new anime for fans – old and new alike – to dive back into a nostalgic series.

You can watch the trailer in the video below:

“The focus of this adaptation is on Miyamoto Musashi, modeled after the late Japanese screen icon Toshiro Mifune. Set in the early Edo Period, a time when Japan was transitioning towards peace, and warfare was fading into history, an aging Musashi embarks on a covert mission. Armed with the mythical ‘Oni Gauntlet,’ Musashi embarks on an epic journey to vanquish the lurking demons. The main theme song, ‘THE LONELIEST,’ by Måneskin adds depth and emotion to the spellbinding saga.”

In the press release, Netflix goes on to reveal Takashi Miike (13 Assassins, Blade of the Immortal) is to stand as supervisor director for the Onimusha series. Additionally, Shinya Sugai (Dragon’s Dogma) is to take the helm as director alongside Hideyuki Kurata (Goblin Slayer, Made in Abyss) who penned the script.

Recently, Capcom revealed a new project that appears to carry on the legacy of Onimusha. Announcing Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, the title is expressed in which “upholds Capcom’s legacy of original and innovative works.” You can read the full report by heading here.
