Regarding Netflix’s armoire of upcoming video game-adapted productions, it surely has been an ecstatic time for fans all around. Just late last month, the entertainment platform alongside CD Projekt Red announced to be collaborating to develop a Cyberpunk anime. Teaming up with Studio Trigger, responsible for Kill La Kill, they will be working on the ‘Edgerunners’ series, which is said to arrive in 2022.

That is not to mention CD Projekt Red is also underway on the platform with another anime project; this one being for its explosive The Witcher series based off of Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. The production is told to be in the hands of Studio Mir – the team most notable for its work on Nickelodeon’s The Legend of Korra.

But Netflix is still underway with more video game-centered animes as the latest is an abrupt announcement revealing that Capcom’s Dragon’s Dogma is receiving its own series later this September. The firm made the announcement by sharing the poster for the new series on Twitter recently.

It is spared that Shinya Sugai (Tales of Vesperia) will be directing the anime while Netflix’s Taiki Sakurai and Capcom’s Hiroyuki Kobayashi & Takashi Kitahara will be producers for the project. Kurasumi Sunayama, who wrote the script for a handful of episodes for Cyborg 009: Call of Justice, will be penning the screenplay for the anime. And Sublimation, responsible for the animation for Persona 5, will be in charge of the same task for the Dragon’s Dogma series.

“The Dragon that suddenly appeared after over 100 years burned the village of Cassardis to ashes. Ethan confronted the Dragon to protect his beloved family, but the Dragon took his heart,” the synopsis provided from Netflix Japan and translated by Gematsu reads. “Although he appeared to have died, Ethan was resurrected as an “Arisen.” Alongside Hannah, a Pawn under Ethan’s command who suddenly appeared, he sets out on a journey to recover his heart.”

Previously, Dragon’s Dogma has not been a main focus in Capcom’s recent lineup. Although the game did receive a Switch port last April, the series has yet to properly expand upon that. It was reported elsewhere that Director Hideki Itsuno chose to develop Devil May Cry V over a proper Dragon’s Dogma sequel, insinuating that could be the next project underway from the company.
