Even before the announcement of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, it was certainly understood by many of its fans that the sequel would feature a dual cast of Spider-Men. After the 2018 game and spin-off Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, players were hungry to see a full-on entry featuring the duo. And even more, Venom would play a large role in the story alongside Kraven the Hunter.
And although Insomniac Games did sever hope that the game would feature some form of co-op play – an endeavor many were praying to be included during initial speculation – this did not shed away any excitement. And as its October release date came and players breezed through the core story, it leaves questions as to the direction of the next entry which is likely to come.
In an interview with Gizmodo, it is suggested that Miles Morales is to take the mantle as the main Spider-Man moving forward. And in the answers from Insomniac Games, it appears that is likely to be the situation.
It always felt very natural, and I think we all collectively thought it would happen. To me, it shows a great deal of evolution from Miles; at the beginning of the game, we see him struggling to figure out what he wants to do with his life. By the end, we had Miles carrying the burden of saving the city, and also carrying Pete when Pete wasn’t strong enough to carry himself at various points.
That’s what’s been so cool about writing a story about two Spider-Men: they’re both strong, and one of them can be strong when the other is not. By the end, Miles is more confident and he’s like, “Yeah, I got this. How much worse can things get after what we just went through?”

Narrative director Ben Arfmann also echoed: “I think it was Jon [Paquette] who wrote that scene in Aunt May’s garage, and it’s one of my favorite scenes. The way that Miles intuits exactly what Pete is thinking and stops him from stumbling through trying to hand over the mask. Miles going, “You know I got this, bro,” it’s such a great moment between the two of them. And it felt like such a natural conclusion; I’m not sure when specifically we decided to do that, but it always felt like the only way the game could end.”
In regards to what the future holds for the series, Insomniac Games did entertain possibly exploring a Venom spin-off project if the demand is there. Even more, there is also notes of Wolverine and even Daredevil potentially crossing paths with Spider-Man in future games as well. You can read the full report by heading here.
