To give players a sense as for the close future for Star Wars video games, the first blip on the map is the coming Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. Since its announcement back in June 2019, the complete anthology of Lego Star Wars adaptations for the titular Episode I – IX films faced an extensive push with the game now slated for this year. Developer Traveller’s Tales now solidifies the game’s release for spring 2021.

As for what lies ahead, there is still the presumed Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order sequel as well. While not officially announced, whispers did surface which suggest the game is scheduled to arrive by 2022 sometime then right before the license for Star Wars expires for Electronic Arts. However, with the founding of Lucasfilms Games, it looks that is not a concern following today’s announcement.

In a new report from Wired, the publication relays that The Division developer Massive Entertainment is helming a new Star Wars title. Although there is not much to present since the project is in early development, it is confirmed that The Crew and The Division 2 director Julian Gerighty will be the creative director for the new endeavor.

I think if you look at the games landscape, it’s such a diverse population of folks across the world that make games. For us to go capture the amount of quality that exists in the world and be fast to market, it would be a big challenge for us to do that internally.

Sean Shoptaw, Disney Senior Vice President Of Global Games and Interactive Experiences

It is already gathered that Massive Entertainment is not prepared to feature much information on the game as of yet, but, Wired does elaborate that this new project is to be an open-world experience, “like the kind Ubisoft is making with Lucasfilm Games,” the outlet writes. Even more, the game is also told to incorporate the trademark Snowdrop Engine already utilized with previous Massive Entertainment projects.

Shoptaw adds, “that really leans into why we are doing what we’re doing, because these are massive entertainment experiences that last many hours, much longer than film,” The announcement follows yesterday’s Lucasfilms Games’ announcement which includes MachineGames new Indiana Jones title.

Alike with the unnamed project coming from the Ubisoft developer, there is little to say on the new game. But with the team that helmed both Wolfenstein: The New Order and Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, there is confidence the Indiana Jones experience will live to its expectations.
