New Discord Update Integrates PlayStation Activity Feature

While this week appears to be the major buyout from Sony Interactive Entertainment with the acquisition of Halo/Destiny developer Bungie, the PlayStation company previously invested in another entity. In that, it was revealed last year that the PlayStation firm would invest a small stake into Discord which would deliver support of the gaming-centered communication application.

Originally, the discovery came at a surprise when Microsoft was committed to spending roughly $10 billion for the platform earlier on in a discussion behind close doors. However, as the fate we were handed currently, that did not come to fruition. It was in a later report revealing that talks for the potential acquisition has squandered leading to the PlayStation agreement.

Now the crops of this deal with Discord and Sony Interactive Entertainment is ripe as new information is coming from the project. In that, PlayStation owners can now project their player activity by linking their account to Discord with PlayStation Network.

“Whether you stick to single-player games or enjoy having your friends join in on multiplayer endeavors, your friends from all over the world will be able to see all sorts of PlayStation games you’re playing and start a conversation about wanting to jump in and play with you,” Discord shares in the new blog post.

Noted, players that want to decide how public their status is can still do so in the settings on PlayStation. Under ‘PSN Online Status’ alongside ‘Now playing’ must both be on to be selected on for your activity to be viewed by users that added your account. Currently, there is still no estimated timeframe for when the chat feature will be implemented for PlayStation.

Previously with the integration of Microsoft Edge Chromium on Xbox, Discord can work on the console – sort of. Although most of features works like text and the overall system, chat is still absent for the time being. You can read the full report by heading here.
