Oculus’ Next Acquisition Welcomes Population: One Developer BigBox VR To Facebook

While many are concerned as to the next culprit for another acquisition made by THQ Nordic or even Xbox’ Microsoft, the same energy should now also be propelled towards Oculus/Facebook as well. In the past year, possibly more, the virtual reality firm is slowly buying up many of the talent for the genre. Previously, one of its largest purchases came from the announcement for Beat Saber developer, Beat Games.

Later on, the Facebook subsidiary went on to acquire two previously presumed shoe-ins for Sony Interactive Entertainment’s internal teams – Sanzaru Games and Ready at Dawn. But still, more arrangements followed the firm with the later acquisition for Downpour Entertainment – the team responsible for Onward.

In a new announcement in June, Facebook unveils its next purchase for BigBox VR, the team most noted for the launch of Population: One. Facebook in the release tells that all staff for the studio will be transferring over to the new venture under Oculus.

We continue to invest in content that fosters social connection, and we believe POP: ONE delivers this experience to the VR community in spades within a super fun gaming experience. As part of the Oculus Studios family, BigBox VR will have the opportunity to grow POP: ONE and cultivate its community with the full support of Oculus Studios resources, and, in the future, pursue other projects.

As part of the transition, Facebook tells to continue its support for the team’s decisions as its workflow is left unaltered. “We are committed to maintaining BigBox VR’s nimble, iterative, creative culture, along with its passion for fostering POP: ONE’s engaged community.” Adding, “BigBox VR has big plans for the future of POP: ONE and for other projects, but we’re not ready to share details at this time.”

Most recently, it was revealed that Oculus exclusive Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond won an Oscar for Short Documentary, ‘Colette’. The game while worked on by Titanfall and Apex Legends team is the least received release so far, yet, manages to win an award from the academy. You can read the full report by heading here.
