The decisions for Xbox to explore outside of consoles remains to be a mindset that players are still unsure about. Including the actions to release more of its first-party titles multiplatform also brings unease to what the end goal will actually be for Xbox. So far, Microsoft has faced continued decline in hardware. But, its most recent earnings call does tout impressive turnout for Xbox Cloud Gaming as a result.
And, this effort is to continue moving forward as Microsoft further invests in the market. Previously, we witnessed the ‘This Is An Xbox’ campaign which deems hardware available to Xbox Game Pass as an Xbox. Also as purchase libraries are becoming available for Xbox Cloud Gaming, the argument does present to be favoring consumers choice – even if its not on its own hardware.
In the past, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer did press that efforts like PC Game Pass have been a strong leader in growth for Asian markets. And now with Xbox Cloud Gaming also flexing its reach, eastern regions are also performing well. Talking on the XboxEra Podcast, the best growth for cloud streaming is from Asia. You can watch the segment in the video below:
“Embracing Windows and embracing cloud – it’s allowed us to grow. One of our fastest growing regions for us right now is Asia. And it’s not because we’re selling more consoles in Asia, but through cloud & PC we’re finding more users year-over-year than any other place,” Spencer answered during the podcast.
“The fastest kind of platform is cloud; that’s the growing the fastest year-over-year and those are players like you were talking about […] that we were never going to catch that person with our console and so let’s find them in a way that works and it’s better for Indiana Jones and it’s better for Xbox.”
During the same discussion, Spencer did elaborate that the direction for Xbox does still favor its legacy users. While new players are playing on Xbox via cloud outside of the consoles, the firm does prioritize player libraries via cross-buy as that will remain a focal point now and further on.
