Although sales continue to remain tight on those in search for the latest PlayStation 5, the system proves to still remain the most popular system on the market. Even as the ongoing pandemic continues to affect the speed of production, new milestones are made for the system. From NPD Group recently, the PlayStation 5 now sits as the fastest-selling and most sold in dollar value device in the United States.

At launch, there did happen to be caveats which should be considered. Initially, both PlayStation 5 alongside the Xbox Series X|S proved to be at par with its formers respectively. However, the latest SKUs continue to break records as demand lingers and increases on both fronts reportedly from Microsoft and Sony as well.

In a new earnings report from Sony, the PlayStation 5 now sold more than 7.8 million. The PlayStation 4 also continues to grow now with over 115 million units purchases, 115.9 million to be more approximate. More interesting is the record that dethrones the PlayStation 4’s sales in its first fiscal year.

That being the new number of units sold in contrast to its predecessor. In the same timeframe, the PlayStation 4 sold more than 7.6 million initially. However, the PlayStation 5 now overtook that by 200,000 more units sold in the recent report. That is not the first record that the latest system stole from its former as the PlayStation 5 did similarly in December with its most successful launch recorded.

Previously, the PlayStation 5 was recorded to sell more than 4 million at the time of its release to late December. Nearly the same number of users that owned a PlayStation 5 also owned a copy of Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. You can read the full report by heading here.

Are you surprised by the updated number of systems the PlayStation 5 sold?
