In recent months, tangible chatter surrounding Grand Theft Auto VI has surfaced. In that, Rockstar Games back in February acknowledged the conversation at the time mentioned that development is underway then. “With every new project we embark on, our goal is always to significantly move beyond what we have previously delivered — and we are pleased to confirm that active development for the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway,” the team wrote then.
Additionally, Bloomberg reported surface details on the new game. In that, the project would be set back in Vice City once more with the new cast to feature a female protagonist for the first time. The projected release window was set for 2024-2025. More recently, claims told that development halted for a Grand Theft Auto IV remaster & Red Dead Redemption port for PC.
According to Jason Schreier once more, he elaborates on the state of the game. Internally at Rockstar Games, work culture has shifted since the release of Red Dead Redemption 2 which faced extended crunch then alongside ongoing stress inflicted from the pandemic.
Elsewhere in the story, Schreier also mentions additional information regarding the story campaign for what is presumed to be Grand Theft Auto VI. In that, the one female lead is Latina and is influenced by Bonnie & Clyde. She is said to be of a pair which indicates that the cast will be skewed to a starring duo rather than the three playable characters in Grand Theft Auto V.
The returning setting of fictional Miami is also said to already be larger than San Andreas from the 2013 title. Indoor locations are also said to be more prevalent than its predecessor too alongside bringing new content to the open-world. It is told new cities are planned to be added to ‘Project Americas’ as well.
This appears to possibly align with a previous report made back in 2019. At the time, it was said the game would be making a return to Vice City with emphasis on drug trafficking to Central America. However, the claim also said it would be taking influence from Netflix’s Narcos with a return to the 20th century which has yet to be confirmed. You can read the full report by heading here.
