Like most major video game franchises, the IP stemming into a film adaptation is expected in recent time. The only difference is if the same can be said about the live-action portrayal offering the same level of quality as its source material. Previously, we witnessed this offering major success from both The Last of Us as well as Fallout both being nominated for countless awards.
The current focus of the conversation now is Gearbox Software’s Borderlands. A beloved series and a staple in the looter-shooter genre, the new film just released this month and it’s hard to hear anything good about the Hollywood adaptation. Since its arrival to theaters, the box office response has been underwhelming to say the least and most reviews flatline any chances of this being signed off as a success.
While it is still early in its release, parent company Take-Two Interactive is still adamant about pushing the film in the hope of more turnout on the Borderlands movie. While speaking to IGN, CEO Strauss Zelnick chimes in to ask fans to give the film a go with the amount of moving parts behind the production of Borderlands.
“Let’s give the film a chance. A lot of people worked really hard on it. The underlying intellectual property is phenomenal, the cast is amazing, and I think the look and feel are really terrific. So let’s see what audiences have to say. But to answer your question, no, the performance of the film wouldn’t have a financial impact on us or on the franchise one way or another.”
What’s more, is the scale for more films that Gearbox had planned for the Borderlands universe after the first film. Previously, founder Randy Pitchford explained to IGN that a cinematic universe is planned to stem from the inaugural film that releases this year. You can read the full report by heading here.
