This past month has been the most momentous time for Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed franchise. That mainly falls on the announcement for Assassin’s Creed Shadows – the long-awaited Feudal Japan-set title. Coming this November, the game branches the gameplay into two protagonists – Yasuke the Samurai & Naoe the Shinobi. However, there are other things also in place for the new release.
One concern was the requirement to play offline. In order to install the game, an online connection is necessary; which Ubisoft has clarified in a statement. Additionally, how you choose the play is your choice. While many view the game to be following a diversity quota, Ubisoft has confirmed that choosing between both characters is left to the volition of the player.
Another effort on behalf of Ubisoft is also set to release alongside Assassin’s Creed Shadows. In an interview with GameFile, vice president executive producer Marc-Alexis Côté tells the publication that a new hub is being introduced with the new game. Originally Assassin’s Creed Infinity, the bridging platform is now branded as ‘Animus Hub’, a launcher that also ties into the lore for the series.
Similarly, we’ve witnessed a growth in this approach for more AAA titles over the past few years. Most notably is Call of Duty. Although it does offer a unified platform for users, it also pools games into one major client on storage drives. Even more, just the campaign for the new game asks for a constant internet connection for the newest entry.
And this initiative from Ubisoft is just the tip of the iceberg. In fact, there are more than a handful of other Assassin’s Creed projects in the works. According to a statement from Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot, Ubisoft is bolstering its staffing especially in the Assassin’s Creed IP. You can read the full report by heading here.
