After years of speculation and conjecture, Nintendo properly revealed its successor for the Nintendo Switch. And rather than an entirely new peripheral, the firm instead announced the Nintendo Switch 2 – an iterative, next-generation console that expands on the core Switch approach. Later this April, Nintendo with host a dedicated Direct showcase to expand on the vision for the new hardware.
What is confirmed for the Nintendo Switch 2 thus far is fairly limited. One aspect it pressed upon is backwards compatibility is on the way for a grand majority of the Nintendo Switch library. This also expands to a new feature coming with the Virtual Game Card system to lend your game to friends with digital titles. And, a patent did confirm that mouse-like integration is coming with the new Joy-Con controllers.
In a new string of events online, it was discovered in a now-deleted blog post from Best Buy Canada that pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 is to kick off next week. From the posting, it was revealed that pre-purchasing for the new console would take place the same day as the showcase in April – April 2nd.
“Nintendo has officially announced the Nintendo Switch 2, its highly anticipated next-generation console, set to launch in 2025. Now, fans won’t have to wait much longer for more details. Nintendo has confirmed a special Nintendo Direct: Nintendo Switch 2 presentation on April 2, 2025, where the company will provide a closer look at the new system, its features, and upcoming games,” the post read before being deleted.

Certainly, learning when to pre-order will be important since the console will sell immensely at release. The hardware is currently projected to sell over 20 million in its first year alone. Even more, the window to wait for release is also short with reports online pointing to launch being in June 2025. You can read the full report by heading here.
