Developments surrounding the Nintendo Switch 2 has yet to cease since the initial reveal for the console last month. After Nintendo properly showcased the hardware to the public, new developments on what this new console will offer. Recently, we’ve witnessed promises from both the likes of Xbox Game Studios & Electronic Arts on more titles for the platform.

Additionally, there has also been conjecture on what the system itself will deliver. To consumers, the projected sales in its first year looks to be a whopping 20 million units. However, what is more interesting is the speculated features that makes Nintendo Switch 2 different. After claims online, the reveal trailer did showcase mouse-like features to be present for this new system.

And now according to the recent patent filed by Nintendo in Japan, it for sure confirms what the Nintendo Switch 2 will offer. In the provided images, the new Joy-Con controllers illustrates the sensor on the base side of the gamepad which can be used for mouse operation. Moreover, there is also an image illustrating the same mechanic with the new Pro Controller that Nintendo is likely developing for the Nintendo Switch 2 as well.

“This input device comprises a front surface, an upper surface, a first side surface, a second side surface, a direction input unit, a first upper surface button, and a sensor for mouse operation. The first side surface is on one side in the left-right direction. The second side surface is on the other side in the left-right direction,” the description for the filing reads.

“The direction input unit is provided on the front surface. The first upper surface button is provided on the upper surface and can be pressed around a first rotation axis extending in a direction in which components in the left-right direction are included. The sensor for mouse operation detects reflected light from a detected surface, the light changing by moving over the detected surface in a state in which either the first side surface or the second side surface is placed on the detected surface.”

Ultimately, the true answer for everyone’s questions will be revealed later this spring. This week, Nintendo has officially scheduled the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct for Wednesday, April 2nd. You can read the full report by heading here.
