When concerning the future for Halo Infinite, January 2023 offered a connotation that major restructuring at the firm will be made with mass layoffs at Xbox Game Studios teams. Most notably with the departure for head of creative Joe Staten, the leadership at 343 Industries is questioned if the firm is even to handle the IP anymore. According to studio head Pierre Hintze, the team is here to stay.
But, that major change in the hierarchy of power was already made back in fall 2022. In that, previous studio head Bonnie Ross announced her stepping down from the role as Hintze – previously known for his drastic turnaround for Halo: The Master Chief Collection – was to overtake the helm for Halo Infinite now.
According to a recent interview with IGN, Phil Spencer shed light on the ongoing game. With the game now over a year old, Halo Infinite has plenty of plans, “sone rumored, some announced” in development and is to remain a vital asset for Xbox for as long as it is a platform for players.
People know they have the next season that’s coming up, and they’re excited about that. They’ve got some other things, some rumored, some announced, that they’ll be working on. They’re excited about the plan forward. I look at, say, the work that they’ve done on Forge and the amazing support we’ve had from creators there.
The timeline for Halo…Halo is always going to be one of those things in my mind that is part of Xbox lore, part of the foundation of what Xbox is about. I expect that we’ll be continuing to support and grow Halo for as long as the Xbox is a platform for people to play. So I think the timeline goes on and on in line with Xbox, and I want to make sure the team’s set up to succeed with that.
As for the future for Halo Infinite, Season 3 ‘Echoes Within’ is slated to release this spring. Additionally, Certain Affinity is also attached for another project related. From Windows Central, an official battle royale mode is in the works dubbed ‘Project Tatanka’. Details as to when it will be announced or a release date has not been officially disclosed.
Pacing backwards on a previous statement from Phil Spencer, he urged Halo Infinite is to be a ten-year goal for Halo and Xbox overall. While it is ambitious to say that seeing the current state of the game, his overall vision that Halo is the core franchise for Xbox still remains genuine and true now in 2023.
