Exploring the opportunity that Sony Interactive Entertainment has with its current platform surely is limited. However, while the amount of real estate is finite for the firm, PlayStation remains to be a leading force for the video game industry as it sits. But, the company is looking to expand its accessibility to its users. One being its implementation of the coming PlayStation Plus tiers arriving in the coming weeks.

Additionally, the PlayStation firm is finally pursuing more releases for other platforms – namely that being PC. So far, we witnessed first-party releases from the firm emerge on Steam and that is to only continue moving forward. President & CEO Jim Ryan confirmed this in an interview when aiming to deliver more titles to “millions of people [outside of PlayStation”. This was doubled-down when a collective pact was expressed by God of War game director Cory Barlog.

In its most recent financial report, corporate Sony elaborates on this ambition with plans to execute more games arriving to additional platforms.

In addition to acquiring studios such as Bungie and Haven, in recent years we have significantly increased our investment in content development in our existing studios. As a result, our first party software revenue has grown at a high rate. Going forward, we aim to grow the game business by strengthening our first party software and deploying that software on multiple platforms.

As Sony pledges to expand its audience across more platforms outside of PlayStation, spending on its first-party titles has also said to increase for PlayStation Studios teams. “Increase in costs, mainly for game software development at existing studios,” the documentation reveals. Sony spending also projected for roughly $44 billion related to acquisition deals underway.

Elsewhere in the report from Sony, the firm is adamant its plans with Bungie to be a first-party developer is settled to finish by the end of the year. The exorbitant amount of spending is said to make annual operating income flat YoY. You can read the full report by heading here.
