Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic – Remake Announcement

Although many believe that Electronic Arts has dropped the ball with the opportunity to publish long-lasting Star Wars titles over the past decade, the firm has delivered a well-received release back in 2019. With that, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order shows to be the first step in the right direction for the firm. And with a potential sequel, there is more possibilities for the future of the franchise at Electronic Arts.

However, with the establishment of Lucasfilm Games, the firm is establishing new projects outside of Electronic Arts’ grasp. So far, we see the upcoming project in collaboration with The Division developer Massive Entertainment over at Ubisoft. Additionally, claims of a remake for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic continues to linger among us. Following the initial tip, it was told that the game would not be handled by Electronic Arts which many are excited to hear.

Later on in a statement by Bloomberg Tech’s Jason Schreier, it is said that the alleged title is to be helmed by Aspyr Games – known for working on other Star Wars ports previously. Aspyr Lead Producer Ryan Treadwell elaborates further on the announcement of the game: “Why remake Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic? Well, nearly 20 years after it first debuted, the original KOTOR is still one of the most beloved games of all time. And even as Star Wars travels to new horizons, we know the community is as eager as ever to return to this iconic era of storytelling and action.

“With Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic – Remake, our hope is to give both series newcomers and long-term fans an experience that can live alongside the very best modern releases. We’re rebuilding it from the ground up with the latest tech to match the groundbreaking standard of innovation established by the original, all while staying true to its revered story.”

Aspyr Games has previously worked on the mobile release for Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic II which does show to be well knowledgeable around the series along with extensive work on other releases regarding the franchise as well. Continuing, he adds, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic – Remake is a tremendous undertaking, encompassing almost every aspect of the original game. We’re still early in development, but we’re happy to finally have announced the remake and hear the PlayStation community’s thoughts on what you’re excited to see.”
